SNAP eligibility is based mainly on household income and size, not on employment status or work history. Idaho generally requires gross monthly income at or below 130% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and net income at or below 100% FPL. For a single-person household, that is roughly $1,632/month gross (about $19,600/year). There is also a resource limit, generally around $2,750 for most households, or $4,250 if someone in the household is age 60+ or has a disability.

Work Requirements (ABAWD Rule): Able-bodied adults without dependents (ages 18–52) are usually required to work or participate in a qualifying training program at least 80 hours a month. However, actively participating in and complying with a substance use disorder treatment program — like Phoenix House — may qualify as an exemption. Ask your caseworker how this applies to your situation.

What about a felony drug conviction? Idaho has modified the old federal lifetime ban on SNAP for people with felony drug convictions. A felony drug conviction does not automatically disqualify you, as long as you are complying with the terms of your sentence and meet the other standard eligibility rules.

• Click “Register” to create a free account (or “Sign In” if you already have one)
• Click “Apply” and select Food Assistance (SNAP)
• Fill in your personal information, household size, and income details
• Upload or photograph any required documents
• Submit your application — you’ll receive a confirmation number
• Complete a phone or in-person interview with a caseworker, usually within 30 days

• Proof of Identity: Driver’s license or state ID, U.S. passport, birth certificate, or tribal ID card

• Proof of Income (if any): Recent pay stubs, award letters, or state $0 if no income

Processing Time: Idaho DHW generally has up to 30 days to process a standard application; very low-income households may qualify for expedited benefits within 7 days.

If You’re Approved: You’ll receive an Idaho Quest EBT card and PIN in the mail. Activate it, check your balance before shopping, and keep your contact info updated.

If You’re Denied: You generally have 90 days to request a fair hearing. Call 2-1-1 for help navigating your options.

Recertification: Most households must recertify every 6 to 12 months. Respond promptly to renewal notices to avoid losing benefits.
